BUILDING PROGRAM— Phase 2
Interactive color renderings of a concept plan for a new sanctuary
were shown by our architect Ravi Waldon of Bignell Watkins Hasser
in a presentation during our annual Congregational/ Corporation
Meetings on the evening of Thursday, December 12 2002. Before
the Building Committee completed its work, conceptual plans were
developed for a new larger sanctuary for E.P. Church. Now that
Phase One of the Master Building Plan has been built and we are
in the process of paying off the short-term debt remaining on
the project, we can begin to look forward to the second phase.
Phase Two would locate the new sanctuary at the head of the 2-story
concourse begun in Phase One, in the area now serving as the parking
lot adjacent to the kitchen. This section would have classrooms
and special-purpose rooms on the lower level and a balconied sanctuary
on the main level. An elevator will serve the three levels thus
created. The main level might also house a vocal and instrumental
music practice suite, and expanded administrative offices for
our ministers and staff.
The sanctuary would be designed in an octagonal, polygonal or
round shape with a tall steeple at its center. The stained glass
window of our present sanctuary would be relocated there.
At this time Phase Two exists as a concept only, which in its
present form today may or may not be well attuned to our vision
as a congregation. Our pastors, elders, deacons and staff will
be leading us in the particulars of how ministry growth requires
additional facilities growth. The images as they are now developed
are only one of many possibilities which may arise. A multi-year
planning process could be required before construction plans can
be authorized, and many other preparations will also be necessary.
