History of ACTS
Somewhere early in 2001, a group of families at Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis began praying and talking about forming a classical Christian education tutorial service for homeschooling families in the Annapolis area. These committed home schooling families had a desire for their children to be thinkers. At the same time they saw an unmet need to provide an opportunity for other committed homeschooling parents in the Annapolis area to pool resources for providing a classical and Christian education for their children. These families prayed that God would raise up a committee of people including husbands and fathers to spearhead the development of this service. In the fall of 2002 ACTS began meeting for its inaugural year.
Our Goals are to inspire and train our children to think deeply and imaginatively, write persuasively and creatively, support personal opinions with evidence, and work independently or cooperatively as required. To develop children who have the capacity to listen carefully and speak clearly, begin developing a consistent Christian worldview, demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a sense of humor, and to demonstrate a Christian moral character of purity and compassion for others. To provide an education in which children become acquainted with major works of the Western intellectual tradition.
To raise children who demonstrate a mastery of the basic tools of learning in language and mathematics.
To provide the knowledge that will enable our children to explain key Christian doctrines and counter major objections to them. |
